I had a similar situation with my father; the difference was that each roommate had their own tv. I had first used noise canceling machine (ocean waves) to block out as much sounds as possible coming from the other tv. However the loud volume of the tv didn’t subside or stop. Second step I took was to talk to the director about the noise issue. I found out then that patients were supposed to wear headphones. That stopped the noise immediately. My advice is to speak to the director directly and ask for solutions and policies. It’s very discomforting when patients are supposed to be healing at a SNF. I have found that speaking to whoever is in charge just cuts to the chase, and remind them that a SNF is supposed to be a healing place.

Try wireless headphones so there are no wires - get the over the ear style - might cost a few dollars more but mom could put them on for some peace & quite too - ask director for help because maybe roomie needs them too - otherwise ask for a room transfer

Again what you guys are failing to consider is that wireless headphones must be charged regularly.

Can she switch rooms? Ergo, could she get a different roommate?

You know, sometimes I wonder if the staff puts these people in rooms with people they think won’t complain. I also wonder if this woman hasn’t gone through more than a few roommates. Speak up and tell the staff that this is not acceptable for your mother. She has as many rights as the lady in who blasts her tv.

Mini JBL speakers can be kept charged by keeping them plugged in to the receptacle (extension cord safely tucked away, of course) and are an alternative to earbuds if the LO does not like or can’t manage earbuds. My moms speaker is positioned on the back of her chair and the cord runs down the back where it stays plugged into the wall.

First of all, I would ask for another room. Second, I would see about getting ear pads for BOTH TELEVISIONS. There is absolutely nothing that can be said that makes it o.k. for BOTH TELEVISIONS TO BE ON IN ONE ROOM. And the roommate should be made to go into a common area. She is being very unfair.
This is one of the horrors of sharing a room - loud volume, two sets. Talk with the administrators and see what they have to say. She will still hear the loud volume even with ear pads. The issue has to be solved by the home - it is simply NOT fair.
