We get time x 1.5 for Sundays if it IS overtime and we are not already scheduled to work. If it's an ordinary shift, we get our standard rate.

If scheduled to work on public holidays, we get either time off in lieu or time x 1.5. If we work overtime on public holidays, we get time x 2.

But our service runs 07:00-22:00, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and it's a bare-bones public sector organisation - so I certainly wouldn't try to get away with paying your aide(s) less! :)

I am not sure if you are asking about custom or law.

Federal law does not mandate time and a half pay for holidays or Sundays, that is a custom some people follow. So, the first question is what is your "defined work week?" All employers must lay this out in an employment contract or handbook. EX. 12 am Sun to 11:59 Sat. If that is your work week, there is no way I would pay time and a half on the 1st day of a work week.

So I could explaing daily vs weekly overtime but I think it may just confuse people. Anything over 40 hours needs to be paid time and a half.

On a personal note, I would do time and a half or double time for holidays, it is a job with low pay and I think its the right thing to do.

Looked it up for my State. If working a holiday or Sunday takes you over 40 hrs a week, then yes time and half needs to be paid. But if under the 40 hrs, only regular pay. An employer may havebitbas a premium.

Yes, they should receive time and half. Time and half for anything over 40 hrs. Check with your County labor board on how to pay Aides.
