She does not qualify for Medicaid. I called medicare.gov. looking for solutions, and she doesn't qualify for anything. She is within 1 to 2 hundred dollars for any type of help. I am beside myself! Her prescription will cost her over $400.00, which she cannot afford. I even looked into those companies that offer pharmacy assistance where you pay them from direct deposit out of your checking account and they assure you they can get the meds for only what I pay them per month. I am scared about being scammed though! I found their website through the drug manufacturers website. Please is there any help for her? Had I known she didn't have Part D before this issue came up I would have put her on a plan before deadline. She just came to live with me. I have checked everything.
Make an appt for both of you to see her PCP for a med list and discuss which meds in her list could be rewritten from substitutions. While the PCP may not be able to wave a wand and get costs down to nothing, but he will work with you on genetic or class substitutes.
The drug discount programs (coupons, special discount) cards, can’t usually be used on Medicare, there may be programs for Medicare I am unaware of.
Or if you have a pharmacist you trust discuss these plans with them to ask which of the plans they utilized in the past were good for Medicare prescription coverage.
Good luck!
Other than that I only wish I could help. Did medicare not have *any* useful ideas? Your mother can't be the first very elderly person to have become muddled about deadlines; is there no appeal to the Part D provider?
I am not sure if this is true but you may still be able to sign up for part D but will have to pay a late penalty is very cheap but things like Eliquis cost several hundred a month.
In the fall Mom may be able to sign up for a medicare supplemental plan that includes drug coverage. Some even have 0 premiums. Co pays will be higher so work out what works best.
I did not take medications when i was 40 either but in latter years I have certainly made up for it.
hello Donut hole - no jelly in that one!!!!!
