Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. When my husbands doctor prescribed a transport chair for him, the medical supply place called me to ask what his weight and height were, so they could have the right size chair ready when I went to pick it up. That was probably 4 years ago, and I'm guessing perhaps that things haven't changed much since then. Good luck.
I've used wheelchairs and transport chairs. I really love transport chairs more so because the doorways are a struggle in our older home when it comes to fit. And I absolutely hate lifting that darn wheelchair out the back of my vehicle.
Wheelchairs are better if in an outdoor area that will be rocky but has not been a problem with sidewalks (dodge holes if possible) or door thresholds (at least so far). Dad is about 5ft 9 and 125lbs.
I've also found that I have to help dad a bit more getting up and down out of the transport chair to make sure it does not tilt over more so than when using the wheelchair.
I've been curious about that wheelchair that converts between a transport chair and a wheelchair.
No advice about brands but if you are planning to use this outside then larger wheels will make it much easier to deal with sidewalks, pavement and curbs, not to mention door thresholds.
Just want to be clear that when I mentioned big wheels I wasn't talking about a full sized wheelchair, there are transport chairs like this https://handi-house.com/product/transport-chair/ that have bigger wheels but are still smaller and lighter than a regular wheelchair.
The transport chairs that are ordered and Medicare pays for are heavy. Not as heavy at the big wheel chairs but hard to get into a truck of a car unless, the handles come out and the back folds down. I may look for one where the side goes up for easy transport from the chair to a car. I don't think with Mom weighing 100# u have to worry about tipping. Just make sure the wheels are locked.
Walgreens has a sale on their transport chairs every so often. Actually the reg price is not bad. These chairs are very light weight. Since ur Mom is small, one maybe perfect for her.
The idea to get her a child size one is also good. At work we had one donated to our closet and it was a small woman who borrowed it.
