My gran who I live with and care for has been showing signs for a while just little ones but this past week she seems so withdrawn. She is disorientated, remembering things from years ago, gone off her drinks that she always loved, not really talking (that's a new one today) and then she has become obsessed with going to the toilet but just to mess with that taps. Her hands have started shaking as well and she needs to constantly grab things. The only thing different is she has been put on risperidone to help her sleep which after 3 weeks seemed to kick in today as she slept all through the night, can this bring on these symptoms?

It's so hard at the moment being in the middle of a pandemic to get proper help or getting her assessed and its heartbreaking to see the life slowly draining from her. Only way I can describe it is it's like shes on another planet.

The elderly do not experience the normal symptoms of a UTI.

Great that you will get her checked out.

So little update. She is not dehydrated or showing signs of a sodium deficiency. They've taken urine and stool samples and were having bloods done tomorrow. She was actually doing well with her blood pressure, heart, bowels etc. And they think it could be the risperidone so theyve prescribed a more natural one. Me and my mom are the only ones who care for her and when things like this happen very suddenly, its frightening especially with the covid. Hopefully it isnt anything too sinister and we can avoid the hospital trip! Thanks again

GET CHECKED FOR UTI. It is the easiest test, and quickest test so do that first now. UTI's come on fast and strong, and they make the nicest people very wacky very fast. UTI CHECK IT NOW. then if the comes up negative, get her checked for stroke, coratid artery check - blood flow to the brain.. easy non invasive..
go from there. Talk to doctor.
Look up side affects for rispedidone. maybe it's too much of a dosage. Ask doctor about that too.

So we are getting a district nurse out to check her over and potentially do a dementia test or try to and see whether or not she is dehydrated. We don't think it a uti as she isnt displaying the normal symtoms she usually has but who knows. I am terrified she will have to go into hospital, with the Corona virus still high its not great but it's out of our hands. Thanks for the answer
