One suggestion is to check the drug manufacturer's website to see if the company has a discount program to help with the cost for seniors.

They do, but you have to be very poor to get it. Talk to the Pharmacist, they know a LOT about help for prescriptions.

What does help in an odd way is that if the drug is name brand, you pay roughly 50% and the pharm company has a deal worked out with Medicare to cover about 50%. Ex. the drug is $400 per month - in the donut hole, you pay about $200 out of pocket (OOP). The bulk of the other $200 is covered by the drug company. But in terms of meeting the OOP to get you out of the donut hole ( in the neighborhood of about $4750 per year), the $200 you paid counts and so does the $200 the drug company paid. Last year, we paid about $2500 in copays and the drug company portion took care of the rest of the roughly $4750 needed to get out of the donut hole and into the next stage of coverage.
