My grandmother has dementia and recently broke her hip so now she is bed bound. Being bed bound has worsened her dementia drastically she cannot talk or feed herself well anymore. I think the morphine and lorazepam are making it worse but I also don’t want her to be in pain. She cannot tell me what hurts or what she wants and does not have Medicare or Medicaid so I have very little help.
A broken hip is very serious. Did she not have it operated on?
Yes the Morphine can cause problems.
You would get the equipment that you need to make her more comfortable.
You would get extra help a few days a week.
Unfortunately without surgery the life expectancy is rather short. (given the other conditions of dementia and being bedbound.)
Hospice would help make her as comfortable as possible
My husband was completely bedridden in our living room under hospice care for the last 22 months of his life. He was quite comfortable in the hospital bed that they supplied, so please call them ASAP.
