I have heard that there are programs where a caregiver can get certified and paid to take care of a loved one. I would like to get some direction on how my dad can get paid. He takes care of my mom 24/7 and is unable to work because he is dedicated to making sure she is taken care of and at home. If he could get some type of compensation, it would help with expenses and bills. He is drowning.

If your parents are also in Ohio, then Medicaid and state programs won’t pay him to be her caregiver. Spouses are ineligible. But the good news is, they qualify financially and medically, someone else can be brought in a caregiver and that would probably be better for your dad anyway. Caregiving is extremely hard work.

You can try the private agencies in your area and see if they offer this service. I think it maybe a state funded thing so check with ur local Medicaid office to see what agencies they support.

I am assuming here that your parents are collecting SS? What bills is he incurring? Medicare and their supplimental should cover most doctor and hospital bills. If their income is such, he maybe able to apply for Medicaid health insurance.

Try ur local Office of Aging. They may have resources Dad can plug into. Like an aide to help with bathing, etc. How to get discounts for utilities. A little late in the season, but there are grants that pay for heating costs. May be able to apply for next year. Budgeting his utilities. That way monthly bills are averaged for the year. So u don't get a $25 gas bill in the Summer and a $300 one in January. O of A maybe able to make sure Dad is taking advantage of what is out there for Seniors.
