Find Care & Housing
First..no one will take a used mattress so just dispose of it next garbage day. Check with your waste company some, due to COVID are either not picking up large items or they have to be wrapped so that the driver does not have contact with it.
As far as the bed goes you can call a Nurses Lending Closet, Senior Center or shelter and ask if they can use it. Resale shops might take it as well. If all else fails place it at the curb on garbage day and a metal scrapper will pick it up. Or if there is a metal recycle station you can take it and get cash for it.
Most people will get a Hospital bed through their Insurance. Hospice rents beds from Medical Suppliers. When the person is no longer a patient of Hospice they have the equipment picked up it is then cleaned, sanitized and rotated back into use.

If the bed was gotten thru Medicare, they usually rent it. If this is the case, then contact the supplier and ask if that is so. If so, it needs to be returned to the supplier. I think, though, when the rent payments exceeds the cost of the bed, then u own it.

Call around to some of the nursing homes near you, they may gladly take it. Red Cross, some firehouses. Here in NJ we have the Ruritans, a rural organization, who have equipment closets where people can get medical equipment for nothing. I just did a search and u do have these organizations in PA.
