She is extremely weak and incontinent. I am having difficulty getting here up out of bed and her chair. Doesn't talk much and seems sad all the time.

When was the last time she saw her doctor? You could ask for hospice to come out and evaluate her condition. They should be able to guide you and make her more comfortable.

97yroldmom: I definitely agree with you. I believe the doctor has to prescribe hospice or sign the papers. It sounds to me like he will.

Hospice will come out and evaluate her. They will give you an honest opinion. They will also get the order from the MD for services.

It is probably too much to take her to see the Dr. so call him and let him know what is going on. If he insists on seeing her request transport, which will make it easer on you both. You can call Hospice yourself without the Dr and they will send a nurse to evaluate. She has to have been seen by her Dr to actually sign up for Hospice but you can get their opinion without involving the Dr initially.
Certainly it sounds as though Mom has started her final journey from what you describe but it is a good idea to involve the Dr. She seems sad but the truth is she is probably withdrawing which is also a common sign that she is slipping away. All of this is normal.
