My husband in now in a nursing facility- he can rmember what happened 40 years ago but can't remember what he had for breakfast 15 mins ago. Some days he is close to normal - other days not so. This is the saddest thing and most guilt ridden thing for those of us in his family. I have health issues and can no longer care for him at home. Such a shame he was quite a guy. We see him as often as possible - sometimes is seems like he can't wait for us to leave after we have given him his candy supplies. He is having trouble getting showers and doesn't seem to care much. How do I get him diagnosed for Alz/ Dementia?
It was explained to me this way...
Dementia is... you know its a stove just can't remember how to use it.
ALZ is...you have forgotten its a stove.
They should be able to do an initial eval in the NH. Ask if a neurologist can come in and consult.
