Does anyone know if my mom sold her house and gifted the money away, how does Medicaid look at that as far as her assets?

Yes, they look on that as "gifting". It would have severe repercussions for any medicaid application. In California the lookback is 2 1/2 years. In most states it is 5. So Mom cannot really expect any medicaid help for those periods of time, dependent on where she is living.
If Mom gave all her money away she cannot expect the Government to support her care.

How long ago did she do this? If within the look back period, Medicaid will not be impressed. They don't like people giving away their money with the intention of making the rest of the people pay for their stay in a nursing home. The money may have to be returned to pay for her care or the start of her eligibility will be delayed. Her money is for her care.

Like she is trying to defraud the system.

Her money is for her care, not gifts to anyone.
