My mother has macular degeneration and her vision is decreasing. She has been experiencing bouts of "feeling lightheaded" and has had many tests including an MRI of the head to find nothing wrong. I just was wondering if anyone in this group has any info or a suggestion of were to find some. Thanks.

She could also be feeling lightheaded for other reasons. I'd get her checked out with her internist, PCP or even a neurologist fairy quickly. When my father had syncope episodes, he had cardiac evaluation as well, so that might be a consideration for you to explore.

Lightheadedness can easily lead to falls, and given her deteriorating vision, she's compromised in that she won't be able to see as well to try to brace herself.

If she is dispensing her own medication, and she has low vision, I can all but guarantee she has messed up her meds.

Linda, my Mom has the same issue with her macular degeneration... she has found that a low dosage of over-the-counter antihistamine tends to help her case. In the past a prescription of antivert also helped. Suggest these to your Mom's primary doctor if he/she cannot find anything else causing this issue.

Could be a simple allergy and/or even changes in barometric pressure. I get lightheaded hours before a storm.

I have had spells of dizziness and fogginess, particularly on the left side. Part of it turned out to be a blood pressure med, part of it is an asthma-type reaction in the sinuses behind my forehead on that side. I tested positive for asthma, and have an asthma med in a nasal spray. That's probably why an antihistamine med helps.
