Mom is in the mild to moderate stage of Alzheimer's, and is still able to live at home, and does not need assistance with daily living activities. We have a female companion living with her for company, so she is not alone. Does Medicare provide any kinds of benefits, or assistance for an Alzheimer's patient?

There's not really any hard core assistance offered on Aging Care.com... What people REALLY NEED Is MONEY ..!!! There's a little assistance offered througg sime community services...IE: One (1) or 2 hours per week housekeeping and if you're real lucky you may receive 4 hours per week Resp Care in order for you to go get groceries or go to the doctor yourself...
For us daughters that are trying our best to keep our parents out of the nursing home and to avoid the Nursing facilities and or governnent from taking their home and everything that they own away from them. ( Leaving NO Inheritance) in order to pay for their stay in the nursing home, There"s No monetary assistance in helping to care for our parents.. to pay for other caregivers that will give us a break...

Yep, not cool giving so much to illegals. As for your parent's house, that can be sheltered in a legal Trust. Definitely need to talk to an attorney about that.

dscott40, Go to the Texas DADS (Dept of Aging & Disability Services) website and see what services she qualifies for. Companions are not covered, but when she needs a bath aide or a visiting nurse, they can help.
Make sure she has the best Medicare Supplemental coverage possible. Open enrollment will be coming up in November.

dscott40, it is really good of you to understand that even though the dementia is at this point mild to moderate Mom really shouldn't be living alone.

You probably also understand that dementia gets worse and Mom will need more and more services. It is good to look ahead to how her resources might be used for her maximum benefit, and also to consider the possibility of not having sufficient resources for her needs. In that case applying for Medicaid might be necessary.

This would be a good time to consult an attorney specializing in Elder Law. Get all the legal documents in place (POA, etc.) and also start the planning-ahead process.

Hugs to you. This isn't an easy process!

As I said before.. Illegal Immigrants are given much more Agency and Governmental Monetary support than any of our own Elderly United States Citizens. The system is set up to take the elderly's home if they have one... And they go back 5 years just to make certain that your Parent didnt their child property... If your parent deeded propertt to you...they can take it ..if given within that 5 year span. So, NO ...there's no monetary support for the elderly that TRULY helps to the extent that it makes a difference.
