Find Care & Housing
In my family I am the veteran, 100% Connected, so the husband receives TriCare. My son will also once he goes to college; covers him about 80%. My husband is disabled and has SSDI and Medicare parts A, B, & D. Between the both of these things he is 100% covered for medical, and only has a $10 co-pay for his medications. I'm the only one that receives medications free from VA institutions.

So Scout99, is your mother a Veteran too? Did you know that you can receive VA medications through the mail? All of mine come through the mail, I order them online. Of course I still have doctors at the VA medical centers closest to me, I just don't have to drive anywhere for my medications.

Have you looked into Medicare Part D?

Have you considered VA supplemental funds for her care? If your father served in a war, she might be eligible. There are pages on this site that can tell you more about it. It pays for caregiving as well as other things that your mother might need. You should check into it and see if you can get it.

I'm my own mother's full-time caregiver and we live two hours from the nearest post. We live off her pension and it gets tight at times, but it would be even tighter if I weren't here and she had to pay someone to care for her.

my mother also has Tricare for life, she is also the beneficiary of my father who died active duty. she does receive VA benefits financially, but I don't believe she could get her medication there.
I have checked out Wright-Patterson Medical Center, and we are considering relocating near there. It would be to her benefit, my mother is on 24 different medications and a couple of them are $44.00 each co-pay. the two medications don't have a generic form. so that's $88.00 a month. now the rest are like $5.00 co-pay. but still by the time she pays for her medications, her rent and so fourth she has little left.

Of course it does, unless you're going to go to a military hospital to get prescriptions filled for her. My own mother has Tricare For Life and even with her other prescription benefit, she still has co-pays. My mother has fifteen prescriptions filled every month and with generics and the minimal co-pay that Tricare requires, her total cost is less than forty dollars at our local CVS.

Another thing about mail order is being able to obtain a ninety day supply, something that could make a big difference for your mother.

Have you considered applying for VA benefits for your mother? If she's entitled to have prescriptions filled on post, she might just qualify for financial help through the VA.
