He won't eat. Would you take him home? Has anybody else out there dealt with this? I feel awful leaving him there. He is 62.

Has he had an updated medical evaluation to hopefully get some helpful info on the changes? Is his level of care doable in a home setting without great health costs for you?

So sorry for your situation. he's young to be 5 years in to dementia. I know there's early onset but since me and hubby are getting into that age range, just seems waaaaay too young.

Anyhow, since you already saw the need to put him in MC, do not take him home. He was hard to care for before and he is certainly no easier now.

He may have taken a downturn. Have you talked to the doctor that cares for him? If not, find out how to do so and ask some questions. Has he been taken off meds? Given new meds? These could contribute to the changes, unless it is just inevitable.

Good luck looking into what might be going on. Also good luck accepting the situation if there are no solutions.

A doctor's the one to figure out what's going on. A 50 pound weight loss in less than three months is a lot.

You asked a similar question on Nov 21 and received answers.
This is not normal. The MC should be using a Nutritionist. When Mom was in the AL her weight was monitored regularly. Five pounds was questioned and watch for more weight loss. This is a question for the head nurse. If you get no straight answers, then call your State Ombudsman and ask them what can be done.
