Been caring for mom at home. She's now enrolled in home hospice. Her dementia is progressing, but has anyone experienced their loved one screaming, calling your name, keening upon waking? This happens especially at night. She simply won't sleep and keens/screams/moans/calls my name incessantly. The very sound of her voice sends chills through me and I'm just done. Had minimal help from lorazepam, had a bad reaction to seroquel. Anybody experience similar?

There is something called "night terrors". Mom had them about once or twice a week. If more, there was a medication that he could prescribe. I was able to wake Mom up and then told her to open her eyes. For me, opening my eyes dissipates the dream.

Calling for you incessantly is called Shadowing and is a common dementia behavior.

I wish she would confine that to the day! At least then I could get some shut-eye at night. Thanks, Geaton!!!!

Well, 75 mg of Risperidone and 1 mg of lorazepam and she is still keeping, talking, yelling, crying. I am sitting up in front of her, holding her hand, and every time I start to drift off she calls me.
She will not let me relax.

You need the doctor to get the meds right. Ask about zyprexa and alprazolam.
