I got a text from my dad's closest relative (the one that felt the need to step in whenever she saw fit. Another of my dad's credit cards is missing. I know I need to switch care facilities and I am calling them today. I have a friend going over to my dad's to basically see how he is doing and take pictures of all of my dad's credit cards to see if one is missing. IF it is, like I suspect I will be calling the facility and telling them that I will be changing services due to the caregiver and the case manager.

When I was at my father's house I had a $5,000 stipend and was ordering things for myself and a few for my dad and used THAT money. Instead of asking me where the money was coming, she assumed things. I had APS called on me due to this and it was over multiple calls, but if she had asked me she would have known the truth.

I cannot fathom why anyone in managed care with a dementia diagnosis as is indicated in your profile would have any access to a credit card

I have to ask why in Heavens name does your dad have credit cards if he is living in a Memory Care facility.
If you are POA there is NO reason for there to be credit cards at the facility. He can not use them. (signing for a purchase is entering into a contract, he is no longer competent to enter into a contract)
the facility has no need for the credit card.
anyone visiting has no need for his card.

Even if there was a reason for having a card there is should be a limited card with no more than $25.00 on it.

As POA you should be watching for unauthorized purchases and if there are any you should contact the card company and dispute the charge.

If there is an open APS case on you, then you are under investigation for elder abuse and fraud.
You cannot buy things without records if you are POA and you cannot buy them at all if you aren't unless money is given directly to you to purchase things. Clearly there was no care contract. There may be violations of the law.

You need an attorney at this point, not a Forum who cannot conceivably understand what is happening in this particular case.

The case was closed. The caregiver assumed package that were coming were out of his money but o showed the investigators my check from school and his online credit card statement.

color me confused.
You say in your post that dad is in Assisted Living and you will be calling the facility.
Then you say in comments that dad is living at home.
So.....
If dad is living at home and has caregivers come in and dad does have dementia Why are there credit cards that are available in the house.
If you are POA then YOU are the ONLY one that should have access to ANY of his financial info. This is Credit Card Numbers, Bank Account Numbers, any PIN's, Passwords....
And how many credit cards does he have? ..you mention someone taking pictures of "all of his credit cards". Multiple credit cards, dad living alone (if he does not have caregivers 24/7) is a recipe for disaster.

And another point if he has dementia and simply has caregivers "coming in" he should NOT be alone in the house.

I think people are assuming that he lives in an ALF, he lives in his own home with caregivers coming in. The only cards he is allowed to have are his original credit card which he uses to pay for BrightStar (what I call the facility) to come in 4 times a week to care for him. I have access to all credit cards with me in South Carolina, including his bank card.

I trust someone in my hometown and asked her to take pictures of his credit cards because one of his care givers never gave one of the credit cards back to my dad and hid the second one where he didn't know it was so I had her go through his wallet (as both my dad and I trust her more than I trust the caregiver that is there 3 days a week now).

I was left a note from the main caregiver as to why "her" card didnt' work, it was due to it being lost, hiding it so she knew where it was and didn't have to give it back to my father. I called BrightStar and had the case manager tell the care giver she was no longer to use ANY of his cards unless it was his gas station card. Don't think she is too happy with me at the moment, but oh well.

He doesn't need a card, you can pay Brightstar yourself, no reason for someone who has dementia to have a credit card.
