Ok, so my mom just passed on the 4th & the nursing home is charging me for the whole month, that got me thinking of the profit the home gets from continuing to use all of the different decedent's Durable Medical Equipment. They must end up gathering a lot of equipment.
So she had Medi-Cal and had to be in the nursing home for the last 4 to 5 years and was issued various items of Durable Medical equipment, I have a wheelchair bound husband and some of her equipment could be used by us and other items could be sold to pay for this months nursing homes fee's.
Dose the equipment get slowed up by the nursing home?
or
Dose the equipment go back to Medi-Cal?
or
Or is it included in her estate?
any and all advice is welcome I'm out of my depth here...
Go there at the end of the month 'because you want to see if XXX is still in her room' & if someone else is in that room then you should get money back prorated to the number of days that the new person was in there otherwise they are renting the same room to 2 people for the same day & that is not right because that room is 'yours' until end of month

You can donate it, you can sell it, you can leave it with the facility where she was, you can bring it to a Nurses Lending Closet. You can keep it in case you know anyone that may need it.If the equipment was rented then it will be returned, the facility should call and have it picked up.
It’ll work out. Take some time to mourn your loss. The equipment usually works itself out and can be dealt with after you plan your loved ones funeral.
I know you were realing after her passing but you should have gotten back into the NH within a few days after her death. I went back the next day because that bed was now up for grabs. My daughter went with me. I informed the desk Mom had clothing missing. I was told to come back after a few days and her laundry would be there. Never happened.
And that's probably a good thing, when you think it through.
The reason being, is some, in the interest of cost may provide substandard DME and it's a risk to the facility.
DME is pretty big business. We have kept walkers, shower chair, etc. But we paid for. My sister and I may need sooner rather than later.

That's what i was thinking, i know the oxygen company picked up there stuff within an hour of her death, we where still sitting there in the room disguising next steps and crying, it felt so disrespectful at the time, but now i can kind of see it from there point of view
On the whole though second hand DME isn't really worth that much compared to what was paid when it was new, pennies on the dollar.
