At 93, I live in an independent efficiency apartment in a senior citizens apartment complex. If I can't take care of myself and my apartment due to physical limitations, what kind of facility will take me? Only income is Social Security. No family member is able to take me. Is a nursing home, the only answer?

I would discuss this with your own facility, may. Ask then if they have ALF or MC that has any connection to payment by Medicaid when funds run out. They will have the best information for you.

Otherwise, and sadly, when you are unable to care for yourself and when you have no funds left for your care, you are down to Medicaid and a LTC facility that accepts it.

Those are usually the sad facts.

Check with the Senior Service Center near you and see if there are nay programs that might help
Area Agency on Aging might also have help available.
If there is a Housing Authority near you check with them.
If you are a Veteran there are organizations that can help. Check with your local Veterans Assistance Commission or call the VA and ask to talk to a Social Worker.

If there is a medical need it is possible that a facility might be the answer. You can contact Social Security or go to the Senior Center and ask for help applying for Medicaid.
