Mary,

1.    Assuming either you or your husband saved all his VA contact papers, call the VA facility where he received treatment and which initiated his benefits, ask to be connected to the team which processed and initiated his care, then ask to speak to the social worker.   I've found that to be an excellent source of information.

2.   Alternatively, you can just visit this site and explore the options:

https://www.va.gov/family-member-benefits/

3.    Another option is to contact the VA through the site listings here:

Your County should have a VA dept where u can talk to someone.

You will not get healthcare thru the VA. The 2 people I know that husbands use the VA hospitals, the wives need their own suppliment.

If your DH was receiving Aid & Attendance benefits, then you are entitled to receive survivor benefits if you require help with ADLs and meet the requirements set forth by the VA. My mother now gets $1228 per month b/c she is in Memory Care and needs help with ADLs ie: Toileting, dressing, showers, etc. I applied for Dad's benefits through the State Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMVA) and a State Veteran's Senior Officer filled out the paperwork/application for me with the documents I brought in. When dad passed away, I again met with her and she filled out the required paperwork to get mom approved for the survivor benefits.

Good luck!
